Fleet Xpress will digitize the Navigazione Montanari fleet
Inmarsat, the world leader in global mobile satellite communications, accelerates digitization plans for long-term customer Navigazione Montanari, after agreement with owner of chemical and petroleum tanker to expand its use of Fleet Xpress to the entire of its fleet.
The new agreement renews and extends Navmont’s use of Fleet Xpress services to 13 vessels and provides for the transfer of five additional tankers from competing services to Inmarsat’s maritime broadband services by the end of 2021. Scope The full deal also covers the cybersecurity of Fleet Secure Endpoint. Fleet Care protection, preventive maintenance and support; and Inmarsat’s Fleet Data IoT platform.
Giovanni Campanelli, ICT Manager, Navigazione Montanari, said: “We have chosen to extend the use of Fleet Xpress based on our experience of the hybrid Ka-band and L-band service on 13 ships, having already used the services in Ku band from another supplier on our other vessels. Everything changed in the maritime market after Inmarsat launched Ka-band services 4 to 5 years ago. It has brought the stability, reliability and availability of satellites that we need to synchronize ship and shore. The service also allows crews to stay connected to the Internet as well as friends and family at home. The Ka Band also provides the throughput speeds necessary to update fleet-wide software for day-to-day operations. “
“The ability of Inmarsat’s Fleet Secure Endpoint to provide cyber protection and reporting necessary to ensure full compliance with IMO Safety Management System 2021 risk assessments for ships influenced the decision to expand the agreements with Inmarsat, ”Campanelli added. “The solution protects all computers on board, isolates all issues so that they can be resolved, provides a cybersecurity training dimension for crews and provides the reporting capability required by inspectors. “
Navmont will maintain separate bandwidth channels for vessel management and crew connectivity, with the agreement providing the ability to adjust commercial data usage on demand.
“In 2020-2021, Flag States, Port State Control and the Class increasingly used connected mobile devices for remote vessel inspections, in a change in operational culture that would have been difficult to be believed only five years ago, ”Campanelli observed. “Now, in addition, we are launching with Fleet Data and look forward to using the power of analysis and reporting to compare vessel performance and find ways to improve equipment and handling system efficiency. on board.”
Navmont also becomes one of the first Inmarsat customers to adopt Fleet Care service maintenance support for Fleet Xpress. Fleet Care replaces annual maintenance contracts with a service offering support from Inmarsat engineers at ports around the world without incurring hourly charges.
“Inmarsat customers are increasingly looking to accelerate their digitization plans and the collaborative relationship between Navigazione Montanari and Inmarsat has always allowed for a proactive dialogue at all times of the contract period,” said Gert-Jan Panken, vice – maritime president, Inmarsat. “After a comprehensive review of the performance options and the evolving digital needs, we are delighted that Navmont has decided to move forward with Fleet Xpress, Fleet Secure Endpoint, Fleet Care and Fleet Data. We look forward to supporting the next steps in its digital journey. “
